Big Yellow Taxi

This song, Big yellow taxi is telling us what is happening to the world. The songwriter wants us to know what we have been doing to the environment for the benefit of ourself without thinking of the consequences.

"They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot"

"They took all the trees
Put ‘em in a tree museum

And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see ‘em"

These stanzas show that although globalisation has make a country more advanced and developed for her people to have a better quality of lives and higher standard of living, gobalisation has caused harm to the environment. We have taken for granted for our environment and only realized it when it all gone. The sencond stanza "they tool all the trees..." tells us that we will only realize our mistake only after something is gone. "put'em in a tree museum" shows that trees have been cut down without any limit thus trees are now seem to be a historical objects and it is very valuable that one has to pay to see them.

TERRORISM IN SINGAPORE

The recent escape of JI leader, Mas Salamat Kastari is a very serious issue in Singapore now.

He is Singapore's most wanted terror fugitive who escaped from detention under the country's international security act on 27 February 2008. It was his third escape from prison, previously successful attempts in Indonesia. He was allegedly the head of the Singapore branch of militant group Jemaah Islamiah (JI).Singapore authorities discovered that he planned to crash seven bomb-filled trucks at various locations around city-state, and he had been on the run ever since. He was suspected of plotting to bomb Singapore Changi Airport in 2002, and further investigations confirmed that he had initially planned to do so by crashing a plane through the airport. Involving with the JI, Mas Salamat was believe to joined them in 1990. He was sent to Afghanistan for training a year later. In 1998, he studied the Taliban system of government returned home 'deeply impressed'.

In my opinion, Mas Salamat Kastari was brainwashed during his training in Afghanistan. He maybe one of those, whom Mr Gabriel Chan said to be influence by the terrorists group to have bad impression on the other races, making him feel guilty for not able to help his own people when they are being bullied by other races. As a result of trying to do something, he turn to the 'good' people, the terrorist for help.

Have he ever think of the consequences? For himself if not at least for his family?

Tuesday Assembly talks by Mr. Gabriel Chan

3 things I've learnt from Mr Gabriel Chan's talk:

1.terrorism is now the tread to all counties around the world
2.racial harmony is key to peace

3.everyone plays apart in making the country a better and safe place

I have learnt from Mr Chan that terrorism is a very crucial issue worldwide. Terrorism may caused many death and one of whom maybe your love one. As such, we have to be prepared from the worst. Preparation is very important. It would help us to do things quickly when there is an emergency. To prevent terrorism, first we must ensure that all races and religions must be treated equally with respect. Only then Peace is created.
